Volunteer Opportunities 2017-2018
PTA Membership Drive and Promotion: Volunteers needed to work with Chairperson on the promotion and distribution of membership information. Including rewards for classrooms for signing the most members and recognition to staff that become members.
Dragon FUND: Need Volunteers to assist the DRAGON FUND Chairperson with fall fundraiser. This is our main fundraiser, it takes place from late Sept. - late Nov. this is a "phantom fundraiser" requires no selling or buying of anything! Volunteers will be needed to assist with promotion and distribution of information.

Hospitality Committee: Prepare and/or help serve food for Teacher Appreciation Lunches (there are 7 lunches per year) and for in-school events like the Career Fair and volunteer recognition. *** You do not need to help on campus the day of the events, sending in food items requested is an awesome way to volunteer!

Book Fair: Held in the Fall and Spring - monies earned at Scholastic Book Fairs goes to assist Media Center with purchases of resources as well as other DDMS needs. Co-chairs serve as liaison to Scholastic Book Fair reps., coordinate with Jennifer Cassidy, Media Specialist to establish schedules, coordinate teacher preview, recruit volunteers to help w/sales, set up and knock down of fairs, handle promotional events (slide shows, principal participation), handle/account daily money and report to treasurer. Will need Volunteers to help with sales and class viewings at each event!

Painless Fundraiser Chair or Co-Chair: The coordinators of this important committee handle Harris Teeter, Lowes grocery or Kroger. It also includes the collection of "Box tops" and coordinating 2 annual contests. Last year this program raised ~$3,000 and earned DDMS a Food Lion "Classroom Reward." Volunteer from home…Collect box tops and link our school number to your grocery store! Encourage friends and family to do the same.
Community Nights w/ Local Restaurants and businesses:
Establish relationships with local businesses/restaurants to receive a % sales/profits to go back to school for promoting attendance on specific nights. After community nights are booked the only other responsibility is to insure dates are published/advertised at school and on website/Facebook.
Spirit Wear Co-Chairs: Coordinate design, procurement, sales and distribution of spirit wear and PE attire (will Coordinate with PE Dept.). Run in-school sales at school functions. Additional volunteers needed to assist with sales occasionally during lunch and at special events.

Spring Fling Coordinator(s): This person will assist with the planning of events and coordinating volunteers. Spring Fling is an event held in April for students and their families. A large number of volunteers are needed the day of the event to make it a success. Sign-ups will go out so you can select time slots to help and leave time for fun! **Planning will not begin until Jan 2018
Spring Fling Games Coordinators: Plan and set-up games and challenges for participation by students and staff for Spring Fling. This includes establishing relationships with community partners to provide challenge booths/games and prizes.

Spring Fling –Raffle Basket Coordinator: Decide on themes for classroom raffle/silent auction baskets, work Grade Level Teams in collecting funds/items to put together classroom theme basket. Work with Spring Fling Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to help you on day of event. Attend Spring Fling to handle raffle details on day of event (table placement, display baskets, pens/pencils for writing on tickets, and assist with actual raffle.
Academic Boosters: Help coordinate Honor Roll celebration (held 3*/yr) for students.
Needed – Volunteers to assist with snacks on day of celebration.
Hani Brooks (7th Grade Parents)
Advocacy: Serves as a liaison regarding legislature that impacts WCPSS and DDMS. Present at PTA meetings to provide updates, information and answer questions.
***New Chairperson (1 or 2) needed for 2017/18 school year
Gardens and Grounds Committee: Throughout the year projects and clean ups are planned to enhance the indoor and outdoor spaces of the school. I.e. front entrance, flower beds and pots, as well as patio areas within the school. Volunteers are needed to help with planting and cleaning to keeping our campus looking great.
Reflections Chair or Co-Chair: (20+hrs. from August 25-Late November)
This is a National PTA Art program. Chair would advertise/encourage participation, handle submissions, and plan recognition ceremony.

Audit Committee: Looking for 3 parents to be present a couple times throughout the year to witness and review the budget.

Nominating Committee: Looking for 3 parents beginning in October, 2017
Elementary Feeder School Parent Liaison: The Parent Liaison (a parent with children still in elementary school) will represent DDMS to our feeder elementary schools by sharing important dates and information between the schools/ PTAs . Additionally, they will an ambassador for DDMS by helping fellow elementary parents with questions concerning DDMS and transitioning to middle school. The schools include Dillard Drive ES, Swift Creek ES, Yates Mill ES, Penny Road, Middle Creek ES, Briarcliff ES or any magnet elementary schools. If another school needs to be added please contact DDMS-PTA.
